Gameroom Pinball Mame Train Bubble Hockey |
I hope this page can help out some other people as well who want to do this sort of setup, but are afriad to tackle it. This is my first time doing this so I am sure I will make mistakes that you and I can learn from.
Construct a fun train layout for our home. We plan to have it go through the gameroom (and foyer) of my house that will be fully computer controlled and suspended from walls and ceilings in some places. (there are other aspects to this project, but for now I am keeping them under wraps since I don't want to spoil the surprise)
The more the merrier and the more brains make for better creations as does the more hands make for easier work. This section is to list those people that I have helped me with the project in some way or another. Their help has been appreciated during this project and I hope they can share in the fun as the project goes onward! My Wife Sue (To many things to list here) Mom and Dad (layout ideas and the main power supply for the train) John B. (Helped me with G-Scale questions and pointed me to the type of system I am building Nick (Layout ideas and construction) Kathy O. (Staining) Paul (layout ideas and moral support) Gary (layout ideas) Reno (layout ideas) Jeff H. (Lumber and wood working suggestions)
I am using a Bachmann Blue Comet set that my wife bought me when we first started dating. Until now it's only made a few appearances some of which include : Around my Dorm Room, sitting on a shelf and once around our christmas tree.
This portion is TBD. I plan to pretty much use the DCCS idea, but customized and driven by linux at the front end and then PIC micro controllers on the engine and anywhere else that I want clients.
I got off pretty easy this time, since I found a system design that I love from a lead from my cousin John B. A company called loco boose hobby has one sweet system for trains that allows you to see the train as much as possible since the ties align up perfectly with the structure that it sits on. It was by far the nicest setup I have seen and I felt that it was the way for me to go. However their system is expensive so in the spirit of a true hobby, I wanted to create my own version of it and try to save some money while I am at it.
